Answering the Call of Climate Change!
This website is about the creation of a new worldview that is needed if we are going to solve the myriad of problems confronting us, the biggest one being Climate Change. Many people are afraid to look directly at the issue of Climate Change because it is so scary, so frightening, and we feel powerless to do anything about it.
By learning about this new worldview and understanding it, we can see why Climate Change is occurring now and what we can do about it. From this new perspective, we can overcome our fears of Climate Change and see how it can be used to fuel the next stage in human and planetary evolution.
If we are honest, we have to admit that something has gone terribly wrong on this planet because something has gone terribly wrong with its people. Perhaps humans have always been this short-sighted, this self-absorbed. Great philosophers and teachers have pointed this out over millennia.
Maybe it is only now that our short-sightedness and self-obsession, combined with our growing technological hubris, have created the conditions that reveal these aspects of our nature.
This mindset is taking us to the brink of annihilation most likely the result of Climate Change, but perhaps we will short-circuit that tragedy by bringing back the nuclear genie that grows more menacing every day.
The situation is so serious that it forces some to take a step back and try to see it all from a broader perspective, realizing that the saying that we can’t solve a problem from the mindset that created it applies here.
If we do take this step back and ask, “what is going on here?”, we will see that at the root of our problems is our worldview, our mindset. It’s the way we think about ourselves and our relation to the world around us. We tend to divide reality into “us vs. them” or “good guys vs. bad guys” dualities.
What we need is a new worldview or as I like to call it, A New Mythology which is the title of a book I will have coming out soon. Like any mythology, we will need a new creation story to provide support for this new perspective.
However, this story will not be a fantasy like many of the previous mythological creation stories, nor will it be just pure science. It will be a combination of science and spirit and whose central premise will be that underlying this 13.8-billion-year evolutionary journey that we are the latest manifestations of, is wisdom.
This is not wisdom from a creator God who stands outside his creation as a separate entity, but rather this wisdom is embedded in the creative process itself. It defines this process and who we are even if we don’t know or believe it yet.
An example of this is Hinduism. It describes the three wants of people as Sat, Chit and Ananda which mean Infinite Being (we don’t want to die), Infinite consciousness (we want to Know) and infinite joy (we want bliss).
The kicker in Hinduism is that we already have them. They are in us but we unaware they exist. That is exactly my point here. We are already wise, we just don’t know it yet.
Now I know some are looking around at this mess we have created in the world and rolling their eyes and wondering if wisdom is the foundation for everything, where is the evidence for it?
It’s a good point, and the answer is we have lost touch with it. It rests deep in our hearts, but we are so self-absorbed and caught up in the endless internal chatter of our minds that we are no longer plugged into it.
To save the planet and ourselves, we all need to slow down, quiet our internal thoughts, and go deeper into ourselves, moving out of our heads and into our hearts. Why would we want to do that? Because it is in our long term self-interest to do so.
Do we want to be the generation that saw the problems mounting and did nothing? Do we want to steal the futures of our children and grandchildren because of our greed and lack of caring? Is that really in our best-self-interest?
The infinite wisdom of the universe would say no. But the universe cannot save us by itself. We are co-creators so we have to do our part.
My upcoming book, The Magical Universe: Answering the Call of Climate Change for Personal and Global Transformation is in some ways a condensed version of the previous book I mentioned earlier entitled The New Mythology: A New Vision for a Troubled Planet that will come later.
I had written The New Mythology, first, but it is a much longer more detailed version of my views. Some said it was filled with too much detail, although others liked the detail and wanted even more.
So I decided to write a shorter more reader-friendly version first and then for those who want more detail, I would offer the second book.
Anyway, I hope you will visit this website often, read the blogs and engage in the discussion. Let’s talk about how we can overcome the crises threatening our planet and ourselves before it’s too late. Let’s explore what ancient philosophers and spiritual teachers might have had to say about our issues of today and use their wisdom to create a new worldview and from it a new relationship with our environment and all of its creatures, including ourselves!
